EDS Technical Expertise streamlines International Depositions

We often are presented with challenges by clients that require novel solutions. One such instance was last year, when we were covering a large Cell phone Patent litigation with depositions taking place simultaneously in Germany, Finland and the UK. The challenges were 2 fold; the data-heavy electronic exhibits needed to be shared amongst the teams in real-time along with the witness testimony relating directly to small segments of computer code buried within thousands of pages of computer code. Coupled with the fact that the locations internet connection was unreliable!

We decided to use in the deposition a Vision mixer. This captured both a high resolution image from the witness computer and the computer code whilst simultaneously videotaping the witness Picture in Picture. This gave the advantage of being able to have both the witness audio/video and relevant part of the exhibit to be securely streamed simultaneously to Attorney colleagues in other countries. We also provided an unlimited wireless 4G high speed data dongle in order to stream the deposition. The videographer and Court reporter arrived at the location the day before the deposition in order to set- up and test the system so that it would all run seamlessly on the day.

The depositions ran successfully and we now use a vision mixer coupled with either a visualizer (Digital Elmo) or computer regularly. Indeed the Paralegal on this job has congratulated us on the fact that the PIP footage we provided from that job have saved the client thousands of dollars in Post-production that they would have had normally spent in preparing the footage for trial.
